Harold Metcalf Symposium
In honor of Prof. Harold Metcalf's 85th birthday this year, on May 9th the Department of Physics and Astronomy organized a symposium to honor Hal's lifelong dedication to science, mentoring, and education.
Prof. Metcalf founded the Laser Teaching Center in 1998. He has done pioneering research in laser cooling and trapping, and has led the department's AMO (atomic, molecular and optical) physics group for many years. At this event, the Laser Teaching Center was officially dedicated to Prof. Metcalf.
We congratulate Professor Harold Metcalf on a lifetime of service to AMO physics and the Stony Brook community!

2025 Chair's Colloquium
As is our tradition, our first colloquium every Fall semester is given by our Department Chair, Distinguished Professor Chang Kee Jung. At this year's event on August 26, the Chair shared department news and accomplishments from the past year, along with an overview of the research done by members of the department.
You can find the slides from the Chair's Colloquium here.
Information about future colloquiums can be found on the Colloquium Page.
