PEG Board At-A-Glance

Frequently Asked Questions

The Professional Employees Governance Board shall operate, in accordance with the policies set forth by the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York, as a recognized part of the University's governance system with authority to make studies, reports, and recommendations on all governance matters which has a significant bearing on professional employees. The business of PEG Board shall be to act as the responsible, representative voice of the concerns and needs of its constituents and to investigate, discuss, report, and make recommendations on those issues that are consistent with the purpose of the Board. (Constitution Article IV.3.)

Am I a "Professional Employee"?

For the purpose of academic governance only, the Stony Brook University Senate defines "professional employees" as:

... all employees in the Professional Services Negotiating Unit, other than an employee with academic or qualified academic rank. The following categories are excluded from the professional employee constituency: ex-officio members of the Senate, interns, residents, post-doctoral fellows, and students. (Bylaws of the Stony Brook University Senate).

This means that to be elected to a shared governance position, you must be a UUP-represented non-teaching professional employed by New York State. (Management Confidential, Research Foundation, Stony Brook Foundation, Auxiliary Services Association, etc. employees are not eligible.)
