SoCJ Dean Search Updates

Dear Faculty and Staff of the School of Communication and Journalism,

Following my recent message about leadership updates for the School of Communication and Journalism (SoCJ) and the Alda Center, many of you have reached out to me to share feedback on next steps for the School. I have appreciated hearing from you and in particular, learning more about the community you have all worked to build in SoCJ.

A common theme in your feedback focused on a desire to move forward with steps for identifying the next dean of SoCJ. Based on feedback I have received, I am pleased to share that we will launch a national search for a permanent dean for the School. 

While my office works to identify and hire an executive search firm, I invite you to suggest prospective search committee members. Please use this form.

It will be several weeks before we have a search firm in place. When we do, my office will ensure there are ample opportunities for you and others in the Stony Brook community to share your perspectives and ideas on the qualities that will be important to seek out for the next dean of the School. In keeping with other recent leadership searches, I anticipate we will have finalists on campus in the spring and the next dean named near the end of the spring semester and in place for the start of the next academic year.

I appreciate the opportunity to hear from many of you over the past few weeks and I will be in touch again soon as details of the search are finalized.
