Historical Note
The charts show the intertwined histories of Long Island colonists and Revolutionary War espionage. Sagtikos Manor, located in West Bay Shore and one of the oldest estates in the region, was home to generations of the Gardiner and Thompson families - prominent figures with deep political and social roots in New York history. These families were contemporaries of, and in some cases connected to, the Culper Spy Ring, a covert group based in Setauket that provided critical intelligence to General George Washington. The genealogical charts provide information about close-knit communities in 18th-century Long Island with overlapping familial, social, and political ties.
